new years plans?

I'm thinking either gnarls barkley/flaming lips at USC in l dot a dot,

or galactic at tip's in new orleans.

why aren't there more interesting musical events happening on NYE???...at least outside of the jam band genre. where are the NYE rock shows and dance parties people? why no diplo gigs? no MSTRKRFT party? no shins show? why is there no show at the Cake Shop in the LES? where are the hiphop shows? arrrgggghhh!

Last night was one of the better nights of my life- met a girl and snuck into a secret 6am Jay-Z show at tiny Center Stage in Midtown.

I've been lucky to have seen a bunch of shows in my short life that hold special significance.

This was one of them.

(If you really give a shit, I listed some of them below.)

Many many thanks to lots of people. you know who you are.

Coming to mind immediately are a few Shins shows, playing keys with the Roots/Snoop/many others the night before the Grammys, Van Morrison at both the Wiltern and the Hollywood Bowl, Paul McCartney, playing percussion with P-Funk, seeing the reunited Fugees show outside at Hollywood and Vine, David Byrne/Arcade Fire, the Rolling Stones, Mos Def and Talib Kweli Are Blackstarr, SXSW, All Tommorrow's Parties, Coachella, all the Bonnaroos, Phish in Miami for NYE and the Hampton run, Arthurfest and Arthurball, Bob Dylan, Olivia Tremor Control in both LA and the last Orange Twin show, REM show on the Athens Courthouse steps, going to Yoko Ono with Julian and John from OTC, Gnarls Barkley, Bloc Party/the Kills at the Palladium, Ted Leo, multiple Widespread Panic shows, multiple OutKast shows, Herbie Hancock, Blood Brothers house party, We Are Scientists house party etc. etc. etc.

Alright. No bullshit or wasted words= the new shins record is amazing.
I'm contemplating a trip to san fran next month to see them- even though i can't afford it and have no idea how i would have the time or money to go.
